Who we are
The Tom Acton Memorial Trust was set up in 1997 with the aim of providing financial help to young local musicians in need, either directly or in the form of medical or psychological help where necessary.
We have been giving concerts in the Chelmsford area for the past 13 years and are very grateful to all those who have given of their time and expertise in this way. We are lucky to have the support of several excellent musicians, with a full programme of events planned for 2010.
We have now been providing bursaries to young musicians in each of the last four years, and are delighted to have been able to help 4 young people this year. They will be giving a celebratory recital as our first concert of the 2010 season – more news to follow about this concert. To read more about the winners go to the News page.
Who we commemorate
The Trust came into being to commemorate Tom Acton, a brilliant young man who died in 1997 some two months after his 21st birthday. He was educated at Chelmsford’s Cathedral School and then at Felsted School. He was about to finish his psychology degree at Exeter University when he died.

Tom was passionate about music of all genres and was a keen amateur bassoonist.
We hold the kind of concerts that Tom loved, while supporting the kind of talent that he both had himself and appreciated in others.
