Downloads and CD
One of Britain’s greatest cello soloists Alexander Baillie who is also one of the patrons of the Trust has, with pianist John Thwates, recorded a CD of cello and piano music exclusively for the Trust.
The CD features Alexander and John in an intimate session together, with the virtuosity of both clearly heard in the interplay of insruments. The performers start with one of Frescobaldi’s toccatas in an arrangement by Cassado, moving on to sonatas by Brahms (E minor) and Debussy. They then change pace, with a beautiful performance of the gentle “Elegie” by Faure. Both musicians commented how much they enjoyed playing together on the final track of the album, Variations on a Slovak Theme by Martinu. With all tracks exclusive to the Trust, this represents a unique oppotunity to hear two of todays leading musicians in a relaxed setting, playing the kind of music we know they are capable of.
